The National Commission for Women held a two-day media conference in Delhi, bringing journalists together to discuss ethical and gender-sensitive reporting

In an effort to strengthen ethical practices in journalism, the National Commission for Women organised a two-day National Media Conference at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan. The event commenced on 20 March and concluded on the evening of 21 March, bringing together media professionals to discuss responsible and gender-sensitive reporting.
Call for dignity and privacy in coverage
The conference placed strong emphasis on the need for ethical, balanced, and sensitive reporting on issues concerning women. Prominent journalists, reporters, and editors from print media organisations across the country attended the programme.
Addressing the participants, NCW Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar, along with legal experts and senior journalists, highlighted the importance of safeguarding the dignity, honour, and privacy of women in news coverage. They stressed that media professionals should avoid sensationalism, irresponsible reporting, and the disclosure of victims’ identities.
Platform for dialogue and reform
The central aim of the conference was to create a shared platform for journalists from different parts of India to engage in meaningful discussions on improving the standards of reporting related to women and gender justice.
Speakers also underlined the significant role played by the media in influencing public opinion, spreading social awareness, and upholding constitutional values in a democratic society.
Interactive sessions and shared experiences
The event featured a range of sessions, interactive discussions, and experience-sharing segments. During these exchanges, journalists openly spoke about the challenges they face in their profession, their responsibilities, and ways to improve reporting practices.
Veteran journalists, including those with over five decades of experience, offered valuable insights and guidance to younger members of the profession, encouraging more thoughtful and responsible journalism.
