Bengaluru: Traffic congestion in Bengaluru not only results in a loss of time for commuters but also leads to significant economic losses. The estimated loss due to the severe traffic congestion in the city is Rs 20,000 crore annually, according to State IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.

The minister noted that this is a phenomenon seen in all rapidly growing cities and poses a serious impact on the economic and developmental sectors. The estimated loss includes the value of time wasted by employees, especially in the IT sector and other major companies based in the city, while stuck in traffic. In addition to this, there are fuel losses from vehicles.

It is evident that traffic congestion in Bengaluru is worsening day by day. Along with the city's population boom, the number of vehicles is also choking the roads. The sheer volume of vehicles on the roads is overwhelming, and the existing infrastructure is unable to handle them.

Whether in personal vehicles or buses, it is often impossible to reach the destination on time. The metro rail provides some relief for city travel, but it covers only a limited number of areas. Commuters are also demanding the construction of more flyovers in heavily congested areas to address the worsening traffic conditions.
