Bengaluru: A man was arrested here for allegedly setting his partner and her parents on fire after a dispute over a scooter, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Panduranga (32), a resident of Nandini Layout, allegedly attacked his partner, Sumalatha (27) and her parents at their home in Tarabanahalli on Sunday.

According to police, Panduranga had gone to Sumalatha’s house and demanded that she hand over her two-wheeler. When she refused, an argument broke out between the two, following which her parents stepped in to intervene.

“Suddenly, allegedly in a fit of rage, he poured petrol over them from a bottle and set them on fire and immediately fled the spot,” a senior police officer said.

Neighbours rushed the injured victims to a hospital in the city, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Sumalatha, who works as a domestic help, and her parents sustained burn injuries in the incident.

Police said a case has been registered at the Soladevanahalli police station under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was arrested on Sunday, and further investigation is underway.
