Heavy rains pounded Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, triggering waterlogging in several areas and crippling traffic

Bengaluru: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms lashed Bengaluru late on Tuesday, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion, particularly along Hosur Road and the Electronic City flyover.
The downpour impacted several low-lying junctions and underpasses, where water stagnation brought traffic to a crawl.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru is likely to experience light to moderate showers in the coming days, while a yellow alert has been issued for surrounding districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mandya and Kodagu.
Northern Bengaluru’s Hennur area was among the worst hit, while other affected zones included Richmond Town, BTM Layout, Sarjapur, and parts of East and West Bengaluru like Marathahalli and Rajajinagar. Waterlogging was also reported at key underpasses, including Maharani College and Basaveshwara Circle.
In southern Bengaluru, traffic police issued multiple advisories due to water accumulation near Singasandra Metro Station, slowing down movement towards the city centre. Heavy congestion was also seen from Bommanahalli to Rupena Agrahara.
Weather expert Dr. Pradeep noted that some areas recorded up to 85 mm of rainfall in a short span, raising concerns about the city's preparedness for the monsoon season. Residents flooded social media with images and videos of submerged roads and stranded vehicles, demanding long-term solutions to Bengaluru’s recurring rain-related disruptions.
According to reports, the weather conditions caused widespread inconvenience as traffic movement slowed significantly in major IT corridors, reigniting criticism over the city’s drainage infrastructure.
