A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal on February 16, bringing possible weather changes in Tamil Nadu. The Met department forecasts dry weather initially, light rain later, and fog conditions in Chennai and nearby districts.

Chennai: A low-pressure area is expected to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around February 16, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. The system could bring slight changes in weather conditions across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal in the coming days.
Meteorologists said an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently active over the equatorial eastern Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, which is likely to trigger the formation of the low-pressure system.
Weather outlook for Tamil Nadu
Despite the developing system, the weather department has predicted mainly dry weather across Tamil Nadu and nearby regions from February 15 to 18.
However, isolated light rain is expected at a few locations in Tamil Nadu on February 19 and 20. Officials said widespread rainfall is not likely at this stage, but local weather conditions may change depending on how the system moves and strengthens.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and further updates will be issued as the system develops.
Fog alert for Chennai and northern districts
Along with the low-pressure update, the weather department has also forecast moderate fog in several northern districts of Tamil Nadu.
February 15: Fog likely in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu
February 16: Fog expected in the same districts, extending to Villupuram and Cuddalore
Officials warned that reduced visibility during early morning hours could affect road travel, especially on highways and suburban routes. Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously.
Weather officials have asked fishermen and people living along coastal areas to stay updated with the latest forecasts as conditions over the Bay of Bengal evolve.
