Assam Police have arrested event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and singer Zubeen Garg’s manager Sidhartha Sharma

Guwahati: The investigation into the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg has intensified after the arrest of two key individuals. According to PTI, North East India Festival (NEIF) chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma were taken into custody in connection with the case.
Police confirmed that Mahanta was arrested upon his arrival at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport from Singapore, while Sharma was apprehended from an apartment in Gurugram. Both were flown to Guwahati early on Wednesday morning.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Kamrup (Metro) district remanded the duo to 14-day police custody following a request from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, currently in Jorhat for the 13th-day rituals, said she was relieved that the suspects were brought to Assam. She expressed faith in the SIT, stating that the family hopes to soon learn what transpired in Zubeen’s final moments in Singapore.
The Assam government formed a 10-member SIT, led by Special DGP M. P. Gupta, after Zubeen died by drowning in the sea in Singapore on 19 September 2025. Notices were earlier issued to Mahanta, Sharma, members of the Singapore Assam Association, and others present at the event in Singapore to record their statements.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also confirmed that a lookout notice through Interpol had been issued against the two accused, who were directed to appear before the CID by 6 October.
The arrests mark a crucial development in the probe, with investigators now focusing on piecing together Zubeen’s final hours in Singapore.
