Guwahati: Assam Police arrested Dipankar Burman, a prime accused in a large online trading scam, in Goa on Sunday. Burman had been on the run for the past few months after allegations surfaced about his company, DB Stock Limited, which reportedly cheated many investors out of crores of rupees by promising high returns.
Assam Police have also seized cash and gold from the possession of Dipankar. According to them, following Burman's arrest, cash worth more than Rs 27 lakh was seized from his temporary residence in Goa along with some gold ornaments.

On Sunday, the Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh took to X handle and wrote, “Finally, Dipankar Burman arrested at Goa. The run ends. Congratulations Team @GuwahatiPol.”
Despite efforts to catch him, Burman managed to avoid arrest until police tracked his location recently. With help from Goa Police, Assam Police were able to apprehend him.
On Monday, Assam Police plan to request a transit remand for Burman in a Goa court, which would allow them to bring him back to Guwahati.
Multiple cases have been filed against Burman for defrauding investors, and police recently questioned his family members. Investigators managed to trace Burman’s latest mobile number, which helped lead to his arrest.
Assamese actress Sumi Borah and others in custody
In related news, the CBI has taken over 41 cases linked to the online trading fraud in Assam. They have also taken custody of actress Sumi Borah, her husband Tarkik Borah, and another suspect, Bishal Phukan. The trio was brought to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kamrup (Metro) district on Saturday after being transported from Dibrugarh central jail.
A CBI team also conducted a search at a business owned by Sumi Borah’s brother in Dibrugarh, but police did not provide details about the operation.
