Early Assam election trends show Debabrata Saikia, Akhil Gogoi, and other opposition leaders trailing as BJP candidates lead in multiple constituencies.

Guwahati: Early vote counting trends from the Election Commission of India have indicated a tough start for several prominent opposition leaders in Assam. Key faces from Congress, Raijor Dal, and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) were seen trailing in their respective constituencies during the initial rounds of counting.
The results, based on early rounds of vote tallying, show BJP candidates and NDA allies maintaining an edge in multiple seats.
Debabrata Saikia behind in Nazira
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Assam, Debabrata Saikia, is currently trailing in the Nazira constituency in Sivasagar district. After the second round of counting, BJP candidate Mayur Borgohain had secured 11,607 votes, while Saikia stood at 6,640 votes, trailing by 4,967 votes.
Akhil Gogoi trails in Sibsagar contest
Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi, who is also the sitting MLA from Sibsagar, is behind his BJP rival in the early rounds. BJP’s Kushal Dowari has taken the lead with 5,171 votes, compared to Gogoi’s 3,262 votes after the first round of counting.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi faces close contest
Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi is also trailing his BJP opponent in a closely watched contest. After three rounds, Gogoi has secured 11,845 votes, while BJP candidate Chakradhar Gogoi is ahead with 14,360 votes.
Jagadish Bhuyan and Rajen Gohain also lag behind
AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan is trailing in Sadiya constituency by 5,759 votes. He has received 5,071 votes, whereas BJP’s Bolin Chetia has surged ahead with 10,830 votes after two rounds.
Former Union Minister Rajen Gohain, who switched to AJP ahead of the polls, is also behind in his constituency. BJP MLA Jitu Goswami is leading with 5,324 votes, compared to Gohain’s 2,570 votes.
Badruddin Ajmal leads in Hojai seat
In contrast, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal is leading in Binnakandi, Hojai district. After three rounds, Ajmal has secured 13,298 votes, ahead of AJP candidate Rejaul Karim Chowdhury, who has 10,429 votes.
AGP candidate Shahab Uddin Majumdar is also in the race with 2,537 votes, according to Election Commission data.
Officials have clarified that these figures are based on early rounds of counting, and final results may change as more votes are tallied throughout the day.
