Indore, MP: Ahead of Makar Sankranti, Indore Collector Shivam Verma has issued an order banning the use of Chinese kite strings during kite flying, following incidents where these sharp strings caused injuries and even deaths to birds and citizens.

“In recent times, it has come to the notice of authorities that the use of Chinese kite strings during kite flying has caused harm to birds and the general public. Birds often get entangled in these strings, resulting in injuries and, in some cases, death.

Pedestrians on roads have also been injured while kite flying is underway, and there have been instances where people have lost their lives due to these sharp strings,” the order reads.

The order states that it aims to protect the public and wildlife from harm caused by Chinese kite strings.

Collector Verma warned that anyone causing death or serious injury due to the use of Chinese kite strings will face strict action under Section 106(1) of the IPC 2023. The law provides for imprisonment of up to five years along with a fine. Violators will also face legal action under Section 223 of the code. The collector urged citizens to adhere to the order and ensure safe kite flying during the festival.
