K. Annamalai, the former police officer who rose quickly through the ranks of the BJP, spent Tuesday in high-level meetings in the national capital. He sat down with the party's most powerful figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah and National President Nitin Nabin.

The atmosphere is tense. 

The political landscape in Tamil Nadu has shifted dramatically following the 2026 Assembly elections. While actor Vijay’s new party made a historic debut, the BJP was left with just a single seat. Sources suggest Annamalai is deeply dissatisfied with how things have played out.

He reportedly told the leadership that the party's performance suffered because of its alliance with the AIADMK. For a long time, he has argued that the BJP must build its own strength rather than leaning on others. It is understood that he feels his potential has not been fully utilised by the party over the last year.

The big question in Delhi is whether he stays or goes.

Some reports suggest he has already discussed stepping down. Others say the topic of resignation did not even come up. There is word that the party offered him a prestigious Rajya Sabha seat to keep him happy, but he reportedly said no.

Back home in Coimbatore, the streets are already buzzing. Posters have appeared ahead of his birthday on June 4, calling him a leader and asking him to take charge. This has only added fuel to rumours that he might start a new movement of his own. Such a move would likely focus on building a network of professionals and volunteers before eventually becoming a new political party.

For now, the BJP leadership is keeping its cards close to its chest. They have promised to get back to him shortly after further internal discussions. They have even summoned the current Tamil Nadu state president to Delhi for urgent talks.

Annamalai himself is staying quiet for the moment. When asked recently about the rumours of him starting a new party, he told people to be patient and wait just a couple of days.

The clock is ticking. By tomorrow, we may finally get more clues if he will continue to carry the BJP flag or if he is about to start a brand new chapter on his own.
