Chief Minister M K Stalin demands the immediate withdrawal of the FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026, alleging it aims to stifle funding for minority institutions.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has voiced strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), characterising the move as a targeted strike against minority-led organisations.
The Chief Minister, who also leads the DMK, alleged that the legislative changes are specifically designed to impact Christian NGOs, churches and various minority institutions.
Stalin linked the move to previous policy attempts, stating, "I strongly condemn the Foreign Contribution Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, proposed by the Union BJP Government, which is a direct attack on Christian NGOs, Churches and other minority institutions. After attempts to take over Waqf properties, the Union BJP Government is now moving to choke foreign funding for other minority institutions."
Taking to social media, Stalin suggested that the Union Government had temporarily paused the bill's progress due to upcoming elections in Kerala and widespread protests, but warned of a potential push during a special Parliamentary session.
"Despite stepping back for now due to Opposition protests and the upcoming elections in Kerala, where Christians live in large numbers, there are clear plans to push #FCRA (Amendment) through a special session of Parliament. This unjust, arbitrary Bill must be withdrawn in full, and I urge the @PMOIndia to act immediately."
