Ajmer: With the onset of intense summer heat, the Ajmer Water Supply Department is accelerating the installation of water connections across the city and surrounding areas.
The Ajmer Water Supply Department has announced a contingency plan to speed up water connections and eliminate illegal ones, aiming to provide uninterrupted supply within 48 hours. Officials have pledged to ensure access to drinking water within 48 hours for all residents, minimizing the impact of water shortages that Rajasthan frequently experiences during extreme summers.
Chief Superintending Engineer Ramchandra Rad confirmed that the state government’s contingency plan was approved five days ago, and tenders have been invited to expedite infrastructure upgrades. Existing tenders will be completed within a month, while emergency water provisions are also being arranged to address unexpected shortages.
Crackdown on illegal water connections
A major campaign against illegal water connections is underway, with Ajmer leading Rajasthan in enforcement efforts. According to officials, 35-40% of Rajasthan’s illegal water connections originate from Ajmer division, making it a priority area for enforcement.
Rad emphasized that illegal connections are being systematically removed, and the crackdown will continue to improve overall water distribution efficiency.
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), aimed at providing clean drinking water to every household, has already been completed in Ajmer over the past two years. Officials stated that no major projects under JJM remain pending, and new tenders for Ajmer city will be finalized on April 1 to further strengthen water supply networks.
Despite concerns from some residents about water shortages lasting over 72 hours, officials insist that there is no area in Ajmer experiencing such prolonged disruptions. The department has assured that every household will receive water within a 48-hour gap, particularly in rural areas where supply is dependent on the Bisalpur-Ajmer system.
As temperatures rise, Ajmer’s proactive approach to expanding water access, cutting illegal connections, and implementing emergency measures will be crucial in managing the summer water demand and ensuring residents receive adequate supply without major disruptions.
