Air India Express has announced the launch of a new non-stop flight between Varanasi and Bangkok, starting February 1, 2026, strengthening air connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Thailand.

The new weekly service will make it easier for passengers from Varanasi and nearby regions to travel directly to Bangkok, one of Asia’s most popular leisure destinations. At the same time, it will provide convenient travel options for visitors from Thailand to explore Varanasi, Sarnath and other important destinations on the Buddhist travel circuit.

Bookings for the new route are now open on the airline’s website, mobile app and other major travel booking platforms.

Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, said the new service supports the airline’s focus on improving direct international connectivity from non-metro and Tier-II cities. “This non-stop flight to Bangkok will offer easier access to one of the most sought-after international destinations. It will also strengthen connectivity to Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest living cities and India’s spiritual capital, while supporting Buddhist tourism for travellers from Thailand,” Singh said.

With this new route, Air India Express further strengthens its presence in Thailand. The airline currently operates flights connecting Bangkok with Bengaluru, Lucknow, Pune and Surat, and also runs direct services between Hyderabad and Phuket.

The Bangkok service will also add to the airline’s growing operations from Varanasi. Air India Express currently operates over 70 weekly flights from the city to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Sharjah.

Air India Express was the first airline to launch international flights from Varanasi when it introduced direct services to Sharjah in August 2015, placing the holy city firmly on the international travel map. Within Uttar Pradesh, the airline also operates from Ayodhya, Hindon and Lucknow.

The airline has recently introduced a refreshed cabin experience on its Boeing 737-8 aircraft with upgraded interiors like better cushioned seats and thicker armrests, improved legroom ranging from 29 to 38 inches, USB charging ports at every seat, new carpets and mood lighting.

From Varanasi, Air India Express offers direct flights to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Sharjah and Bangkok, along with one-stop connections to several domestic cities and major international destinations across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The launch of the Varanasi–Bangkok service is expected to significantly boost tourism, business travel and cultural exchanges between India and Thailand.
