The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor aims for full operation by 2029, with a Surat-Bilimora stretch opening by 2027, slashing travel time from 9 to 2 hours.

Ahmedabad:Ā The Ahmedabad bullet train station is nearing completion, with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirming that the facility is "almost ready," marking a crucial milestone for Indiaās ambitious high-speed rail project.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is set to be fully operational by 2029, with a key 50-kilometre stretch between Surat and Bilimora expected to open as early as 2027. This phased rollout will allow passengers to experience high-speed travel, reducing the journey from nine hours to just over two hours.
Enhancements and capacity boost
To accommodate increasing passenger demand, Ahmedabad station will see an expansion with three additional platforms, alongside a new Mega Terminal at Vatva. The terminal, equipped with 10 pit lines, will support around 45 more trains daily, boosting the stationās capacity to about 150 trains.
The stationās architecture draws inspiration from Gujaratās cultural heritage, notably the Modhera Sun Temple. Heritage structures like the Brick Minar and Jhulta Minar are being incorporated into the redevelopment, with the striking MMTH Tower adding a modern landmark element.
Technology and safety innovations
The project employs Japanese Shinkansen technology, incorporating advanced features like vibration absorption systems and quake-resistant safety measures. Over 1,300 stations across India are undergoing similar modernisation efforts, emphasising the governmentās focus on integrating safety and efficiency.
This comprehensive redevelopment and expansion are set to position Ahmedabad as a key node in Indiaās high-speed rail ambitions, promising faster connectivity and enhanced urban infrastructure.
