Banerjee, along with West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, had earlier left Apollo Hospital before the incident occurred.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee was taken to Belle Vue Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday after he was allegedly attacked during a visit to Sonarpur, where he had gone to meet families affected by reported post-poll violence.
Banerjee, along with West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, had earlier left Apollo Hospital before the incident occurred.
Reacting to the attack, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose strongly condemned the incident and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fostering a climate of violence in West Bengal. She described the situation as “highly condemnable” and alleged that the state’s law and order had deteriorated, claiming that BJP workers were responsible for the attack while security arrangements were inadequate.
Ghose further said the party intended to pursue the matter legally, stating that it would be raised both in court and in public forums.
TMC MP Saugata Roy also questioned the role of central forces during the incident. He said that while the central security personnel had helped rescue Abhishek Banerjee, their conduct during elections had previously raised concerns. He added that it was their responsibility to act promptly in such situations.
Earlier, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) posted on social media platform X that Banerjee had met the family of Sanju Karmakar, who the party claimed died following an attack by “BJP-backed miscreants”.
The party alleged that political violence had intensified in the state and accused the BJP of undermining peace and public safety. It further reaffirmed its commitment to support affected families and resist any form of political intimidation or violence targeting its workers.
