New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday strongly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the controversial CAG report on Delhi’s excise policy, calling it a poll code violation.

Singh said "Where did this CAG report come from? The Model Code of Conduct is in force in Delhi currently. BJP is violating election regulations and spreading fake news," he said. Singh also demanded strict legal action against BJP members. He said, “serious cases should be registered against BJP members who are commenting on this”.

Singh also criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks against AAP. "They claimed they would provide 2 crore jobs annually—have they delivered on that? They also promised to bring back black money to India—has that happened?" Singh questioned. He further highlighted the BJP’s failure to fulfil its pledge of providing permanent housing for all by August 15, 2022.

The CAG report, which has not been tabled in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, claims that the AAP government, under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ignored established rules while drafting the excise policy. According to the document, this led to a loss of over ₹2,026 crore to the exchequer. Singh demanded strict legal action against BJP members making public statements about the report.

The alleged findings of the 'leaked' CAG report come ahead of the February 5 Assembly elections in Delhi and expose the gross violations like lack of transparency in pricing, violation in issue and renewal of licences, non-penalisation of violators, non-seeking of approval from the LG, Cabinet or the Assembly.

The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. While last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats.
