In a truly heartwarming mid-air miracle, a baby was born aboard an Air India Express flight travelling from Muscat to Mumbai, turning an ordinary journey into an unforgettable one.

The expecting mother, a Thai national, went into sudden labour during the flight. Rising to the occasion with calm urgency, the Air India Express cabin crew sprang into action — transforming the aircraft into a makeshift delivery room at 35,000 feet. Drawing from their intensive emergency training, the crew ensured both care and composure during the in-flight birth. Adding to their efforts, a nurse among the passengers stepped in to assist.

As the delivery progressed, the flight’s pilots, Capt Ashish Vaghani and Capt Faraz Ahmed, immediately coordinated with Air Traffic Control to arrange a priority landing in Mumbai. On arrival, medical teams and an ambulance were on standby, ensuring swift care for both the mother and her newborn. A female airline staff member accompanied them to the hospital, extending continued support on the ground.

The cabin crew — senior cabin crew Sneha Naga and crew members Aishwarya Shirke, Asiya Khalid and Muskan Chauhan — have been widely praised for their professionalism, empathy and quick thinking under pressure.

The airline is now working closely with the Consulate General of Thailand in Mumbai to facilitate the family's return home.
