
Dantewada: A fierce gunfight in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region resulted in the deaths of four Naxalites and one police officer, authorities reported on Sunday.
The encounter took place on Saturday evening in a dense forest area in south Abujhmaad, located on the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts. A joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Naxalite operation when they clashed with armed insurgents.

After the exchange of fire continued through Saturday night, the security forces recovered the bodies of four Naxalites along with several automatic weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle (SLR). The officer killed in the operation was identified as Head Constable Sannu Karam of the District Reserve Guard (DRG).
The police confirmed that a search operation was still ongoing in the area to ensure the elimination of any remaining threats. The authorities have yet to provide additional details on the operation’s progress.
