The raid, which took place in Sagar district, was primarily linked to Rathore's business partner, Rajesh Kesarwani. Kesarwani, a former contractor and councillor, is under investigation for alleged income tax evasion through his bidi manufacturing business, as per reports. During the raid, officials discovered crocodiles in a pond on the property, prompting them to alert the forest department. MP Head of Forest Force Aseem Shrivastava confirmed that the crocodiles were rescued and a case was filed under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Harvansh Singh Rathore, a veteran politician from Sagar, has been associated with the region's politics since 2013 when he was elected as an MLA. His father, Harnam Singh Rathore, was a former minister in the state government. The Income Tax Department has been investigating Kesarwani’s premises and associates since Sunday, and the discovery of crocodiles adds an unexpected twist to the ongoing probe.
