Arunachal’s Kabak Yano continues her Seven Summits quest, conquering Mount Elbrus after Kilimanjaro and Everest

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen K T Parnaik (Retd.) on Sunday congratulated mountaineer Kabak Yano for successfully summiting Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe.
A Raj Bhavan official said Yano reached the summit on Aug 16 at 5.20 am (Russian time).
The governor, who had earlier flagged off her Seven Summits Challenge, lauded her determination and said he was confident she would complete the mission. “Her extraordinary feat reflects the true spirit of Arunachal and will serve as a powerful source of inspiration, particularly for young girls, to embrace challenges with courage and resilience,” he said.
Mount Elbrus, a dormant stratovolcano in the Caucasus Mountains near the Russia-Georgia border, stands at 18,510 feet. It is not only the highest peak in Europe but also the highest volcano in Eurasia, ranking among the world’s ten most prominent peaks. Climbing Elbrus is considered a major milestone in the Seven Summits Challenge, scaling the tallest mountain on each continent.
Yano, 26, had earlier summited Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 19,340 feet, on Aug 4. Kilimanjaro, an iconic snow-capped volcano in Tanzania, is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.
Born Sept 5, 1999, in Arunachal Pradesh, Yano etched her name in history by summiting Mount Everest on May 21, 2024. She began her Everest expedition from Kathmandu on March 27, reached base camp on April 17, and went on to successfully summit the world’s highest mountain.
With that feat, she became the fifth woman climber from Arunachal Pradesh, and the first woman from the Nyishi community, to scale Everest.
