Bengaluru: A 63-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy died of electrocution in Bengaluru on Monday evening while attempting to drain rainwater from a flooded house, police said. This brings the total number of rain-related deaths in the city to three so far during the ongoing pre-monsoon showers.

Fatal incident during water drainage

The deceased has been identified as Manmohan Kamath, a resident of Madhuvan Apartment in NS Palya near BTM 2nd Stage.

According to officers from the Mico Layout Police Station, Kamath had been trying to clear water from his home using a motorised pump when the accident occurred.

“When he connected the pump to a socket, there was a short circuit, leading to his electrocution,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.

Dinesh (12), the son of a Nepalese man employed at the apartment complex, was also standing nearby and was electrocuted as well, police added.

Both victims were rushed to hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The Station House Officer confirmed that Unnatural Death Reports (UDRs) would be registered in both cases.

Third rain-related death reported

Earlier on Monday, Sasikala (35) lost her life when a compound wall collapsed on her. The incident occurred while she was sweeping at a company within the limits of Mahadevapura Police Station, authorities said.
