Ramanattukara: The procedures to release Abdul Rahim, a Kozhikode man imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, are accelerating. The funds collected for his release have been handed over to the Indian Embassy.
This move follows an email received by Rahim’s family from the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, instructing them to transfer 15 billion Riyals, equivalent to Rs 34.35 crore, to the Ministry of External Affairs account in Delhi via NEFT. The ‘Rahim Sahayasamithi’ (action council) took necessary action on Thursday to complete the bank transfer.
The action council also confirmed that the 7.5 million Saudi Riyals to be paid to the plaintiff’s lawyer in Rahim’s case has been received in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Indian embassy officials and members of the action council travelled to the Riyadh Governorate to seek guidance regarding Rahim's release. Reports indicate that a decision has been made to pay the money at the Riyadh criminal court.
