New Delhi: The Delhi high court has appreciated a Keralite lawyer for presenting arguments through video conference while wearing an oxygen mask at the hospital bed.

Adv Subhash Chandran was the lawyer who was lauded by Justice Pratibha M Singh of Delhi high court for his dedication and sincerity. Hailing from Kuttippuram in Malappuram, Subhash appeared for a case related to the repatriation of the body of a person who died in Saudi Arabia.

Subhash has been suffering from breathing ailment and has been hospitalised at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh since April 27. A former journalist, Subhash decided to appear for the case through video conference as it was listed on Wednesday.

Himachal Pradesh native Sanjeev Kumar (51) had died of heart attack in Saudi Arabia on January 24. Following this, his wife requested to expatriate the body. But the family was informed on February 18 that the body was buried.

The death certificate noted that the person was Muslim. So, the wife approached the court requesting to repatriate the body to cremate it as per Hindu rituals. When the case was considered on Wednesday, the central government informed the high court that the body was brought home at 3 am on the day.

Following this, the high court lauded the efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs and conveyed gratitude to Saudi Arabian authorities. The court also appreciated Adv Subhash Chandran for presenting arguments from the hospital bed before closing the case.
