Kottayam (Kerala): A 56-year-old lawyer died on Monday night after the firearm he was carrying discharged accidentally when his scooter skidded and overturned at Neerurutti near Uzhavoor, police said.

The victim, identified as Okkattu Joby from Uzhavoor, was riding downhill around 9 pm when he reportedly lost control of his scooter, causing the vehicle to topple. According to police, the gun he had with him was pressed during the fall, leading to an unintended firing.

The bullet struck him on the head, killing him instantly. Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police.

Kuravilangad Police has registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. Officers said Joby often went hunting and was carrying the weapon for that purpose.
