Palakkad: At Sravana Samsara Higher Secondary School in Yakkara here, the laughter and learning resonate far beyond the confines of the classroom. Here, a remarkable story unfolds, where the absence of sound is met with the profound impact of love and dedication.

K G Deepthi, head teacher of this extraordinary school, is a beacon of hope and inspiration for her students. Despite being hearing impaired, Deepthi has channeled her own experiences into a life devoted to teaching and guiding others who face similar challenges.

The story of Sravana Samsara School is deeply intertwined with Deepthi's own life. The school, which has been a sanctuary for hearing and speech-impaired children for 43 years, was founded in 1981 by Deepthi's parents, Kazhimbram Gopi and Shantakumari. When Deepthi was just eight months old, her parents found that she could not hear. Determined that their daughter would not be constrained by her disability, Gopi and Shantakumari made a bold decision: they would create a school where she—and others like her—could learn to communicate and thrive.

Deepthi's journey is nothing short of inspiring. After completing her MA from Mercy College in Palakkad, she pursued further qualifications in Hearing and Speech Education (HDC) and BEd. Despite being offered a stable job as a clerk with the Toddy Welfare Board, Deepthi chose to follow her passion. In 2009, she decided to dedicate herself fully to the school her parents had established. Her commitment was not just a career choice but a deeply personal mission.

The school itself is a pioneering institution in Kerala, teaching speech and hearing-impaired children through traditional speech methods, much like regular schools. Today, it accommodates 106 students from pre-primary to higher secondary levels. The legacy of Deepthi's mother, Shantakumari, who also taught at the school and is now retired, lives on through the institution’s continued success.

Deepthi's family life complements her professional dedication. She is married to Ramachandran, an army officer, and they have a daughter, Sonam Rachana Arathi. Their support and love further bolster Deepthi’s tireless efforts.

At Sravana Samsara School, it is said that even though these children may not hear with their ears, they hear with their hearts—because of the unwavering love and dedication of their beloved teacher Deepthi. Through her tireless work, she ensures that each child not only learns but also feels valued and heard.
