Will go to my village in uniform and salute my mother, says Bihar's first transgender sub-inspector

Three transgender candidates have cleared the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) Sub-Inspector examination, results of which were announced on Tuesday. This is the first time that a person from the transgender community has become a sub-inspector in Bihar.

Manvi Madhu Kashyap is one of them, hailing from a small village in Bhagalpur. Among the 1,275 posts of sub-inspector, Manvi stood out from the crowd with her inspiring journey and resilience. Hailing from a small village, she faced societal pressure due to her gender expression. 

Her mother would secretly visit her in Patna, but now Manvi is proud to return to her village in uniform, free from shame and fear.

"I used to wear a scarf to hide my identity out of fear of society. My mother would visit Patna secretly to meet me, but now I will go to my village donning the uniform and tell everyone that I have no shame in being transgender," she said.

Manvi's discovery of her identity in class 9 led to her estrangement from society, and she has not visited her family in nine years. 

"Now that I've passed the sub-inspector examination, after completing the training, I will go to my village in uniform and salute my mother," she said.

Manvi dedicated herself to rigorous preparation, studying for over eight hours daily and engaging in physical exercise. Her hard work paid off, as she excelled in the physical examination, completing the race in an impressive 4.34 minutes.

Manvi attributes her success to Guru Rehman, a prominent educationist who provides free education to transgender individuals. Guru Rehman's institute has produced three successful transgender sub-inspectors this year, a feat that fills him with pride.
