The Department of Social Justice is offering financial assistance to transgender students enrolled in professional courses at the degree or diploma level through the Saphalam scheme. Applications are invited from eligible students for the same.
The Saphalam scheme aims to support transgender students who qualify for professional courses but face financial challenges that may hinder them from continuing their education.
Eligibility: Students who have completed 18 years must submit a copy of their Transgender ID card. Those who are below 18 years must submit a self-declaration statement duly certified by the Head of Institution/Parent. A maximum amount of Rs.1 lakh per year will be provided as financial assistance for eligible students.
Students who have secured admission in merit seats in Government, Aided/Self-financing colleges are eligible under this scheme. Students who secure admission for courses MBBS, B.VSc, BSc Agriculture in Government colleges are eligible to avail this aid. Students pursuing Diploma level government accredited courses are also eligible.
Additionally, there are two other schemes for transgender students: a scholarship for Transgender students starting from the 7th standard and a Hostel Facility scheme. The scholarship helps transgender students continue their studies from the 7th standard to diploma, degree, and postgraduate levels. The Hostel Facility scheme provides financial assistance for accommodation to transgender students.
