Peerumedu (Idukki): The police termed the incident where a young man was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Plakkathadam as a murder. In the case of Akhil Babu (31) of Puthenveedu being found dead near his house, his mother and brother have been taken into custody by the Peerumedu Police.

Akhil was found dead on Tuesday night. The body was tied with a plastic hose to an arecanut tree near their house.

The neighbours told the police that there was always tension in Akhil’s house because of his alcohol addiction. A similar ruckus was heard on Tuesday also. The police concluded that the death may have occurred due to the beating that followed the fight. 

Meanwhile, a dog squad and fingerprint experts examined the spot.

The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem at Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
