After spending time in Goa, the two returned to Ernakulam. It was while attempting to travel to Tamil Nadu that police intercepted and arrested Binu.
The girl’s parents had lodged a missing person’s complaint with Varkala police on the day she disappeared. Initial investigations were hampered as the suspect’s mobile phone had been switched off, leaving officers unable to trace his movements. Subsequent analysis of CCTV footage revealed that the pair had travelled by train to Thiruvananthapuram, before moving on to Madurai and later Goa.
During questioning, police established that the girl had been subjected to sexual assault on multiple occasions in both Madurai and Goa. Both the accused and the survivor were taken for medical examination.
Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The suspect has been produced before court and remanded in custody.
