
Wayanad: A tribal man was dragged along the road by a group of people travelling in a car in Mananthavady on Sunday.
The victim, Mathan, was attacked after allegedly intervening in a dispute between tourists visiting a check dam.
According to locals, the group in the car stopped in front of a local shop and used offensive language. They allegedly attempted to throw stones at another vehicle approaching from behind. Amid this, Mathan intervened to stop the confrontation. The group then attacked him.
The visuals of the incident show Mathan’s hand being grabbed by other hands that came from the car window. He was reportedly dragged for about half a kilometre along the road in that manner. He sustained severe injuries to his hands, legs, and abdomen.
A case against four individuals travelling in a silver Maruti Suzuki Celerio (KL 52 H 8733) was registered after the video of the incident surfaced online. Police are trying to locate the car’s owner, Muhammad Riyas, a resident of Malappuram.
The police have been unable to contact him through the registered mobile number. Additionally, the police are investigating the involvement of another vehicle, as a dispute between the passengers of the two cars is believed to have led to the incident.
