'Sorry, mummy, main aise ja rahi hoon.' Those were among the last words allegedly spoken by a 27-year-old government school teacher in a tearful video recorded before she died by suicide in Uttarakhand's Dehradun, an incident that has now led to a dowry death case against her husband and his family.

The deceased, identified as Srishti Kandhari, had married government employee Saurabh Raturi in November last year and was living with his family in the Doiwala area, about 20 km from Dehradun.

Barely eight months into the marriage, she allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday after enduring months of mental and physical harassment over dowry, according to allegations made by her family.

Acting on a complaint lodged by Kandhari's mother, police have registered an FIR under provisions related to dowry death against her husband, his mother Parvina and his sister Charu. Other unidentified family members have also been named in the complaint.

According to the FIR, Kandhari was allegedly subjected to repeated physical and emotional abuse and was constantly pressured over dowry.

Her mother claimed that she was routinely insulted, blamed for misfortunes within the family, and branded 'manhoos' and 'unlucky' by her in-laws.

The complaint further alleges that after the prolonged illness and subsequent death of her father-in-law, family members held Kandhari responsible, deepening her emotional distress.

An emotional video, believed to have been recorded shortly before her death, has since surfaced on social media.

In the recording, Kandhari is seen apologising to her mother, saying she could no longer endure the alleged harassment. She also claimed she had been blamed for every adverse incident that took place after her marriage.

The incident came to light after Kandhari's mother, who lives in Srinagar in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region, was unable to reach her daughter for two consecutive days.

Concerned, she asked relatives in Dehradun to check on her. They found Kandhari in a critical condition at a local hospital, where she later died during treatment.

Doiwala Circle Officer Vandana Verma said police, along with a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, inspected the scene after receiving information about the incident.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and investigators are examining all aspects of the case. Police said both the deceased and her husband were government employees. The investigation is ongoing.
