Thane: Police arrested three individuals on Saturday following an assault in which a woman was beaten, stripped, and paraded through the streets wearing a garland of footwear in the Thane district.
Authorities are actively searching for four additional suspects who remain at large following the Thursday incident, according to Senior Inspector Sunil Awtade of the Central police station.
"The incident took place over a temple visit," Awtade said. "The woman apparently made objectionable remarks about deities, which got a group of persons angry. CCTV footage that has gone viral on social media is being checked as part of the probe."
The suspects face multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, along with other related offences.
