Patiala House Court on Saturday remanded Haseen, the accused arrested on charges of espionage, to five days of police custody. The Special Cell of Delhi Police submitted before the court that the accused needed to be taken to Barmer for further investigation.

Earlier, the Special Cell informed the court that Haseen was linked to Indian SIM cards operated from Pakistan. These SIMs were allegedly used to run WhatsApp accounts with the intention of honey-trapping officials of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Military Intelligence.

DRDO officer targeted in espionage attempt

The police presented evidence showing attempts to trap DRDO officer Amit Kumar. They stated that this was part of a larger espionage operation involving the strategic targeting of key defence personnel.

Brother Qasim allegedly carried SIMs to Pakistan

Delhi Police also told the court that Haseen’s brother Qasim, who has already been arrested, allegedly took the Indian SIM cards to Pakistan. These numbers were later used in operating WhatsApp accounts to honey-trap Indian defence officials.

Qasim’s role: SIM transport and ISI links

Qasim, was earlier arrested in Rajasthan’s Mewat region on charges of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Police said the 34-year-old cleric had travelled to Pakistan twice—once in August 2024 and again in March 2025—staying for a total of around 90 days. During his stay, he reportedly met ISI officers and underwent espionage training at a Pakistani army base.

Three ISI handlers were allegedly involved, two known by aliases—Shah Ji and Tauji—and the third as Waqas. Delhi Police believe they were in touch with contacts at the Pakistan High Commission. Qasim was accused of coordinating the smuggling of Indian SIM cards to Pakistan. These were later used by Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) to establish contact with Indian defence personnel over WhatsApp and gather sensitive information.
