Kollam: A student faced threats and verbal abuse from a leader of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) after leaving the organisation to join the All India Students Federation (AISF).
Vishnu Manohar, a student at Punalur SN College and former president of the college's SFI unit, recorded a disturbing phone conversation where an SFI district committee member, Aromal, allegedly threatened him.
Vishnu alleged that Aromal threatened to beat him from Punalur to his house and beat him up in front of his family. Vishnu told Mathurbhumi News that they wanted him to work like a slave.
"Are you threatening SFI? I dare you to touch us. Since when have you started seeing how SFI works?” Aromal asks in the audio clip released by Vishnu. Vishnu can be heard saying “I do not want to work in an organisation that does not give me freedom, and I’m not threatening anyone.”
“Just ask the AISF’s secretary, how they liked SFI’s beating. You guys are just a bunch of cowards,” Aromal replies.
Vishnu, who is active in the college's arts community, had clashed with SFI leadership over his involvement, which they deemed inappropriate for a member of their organisation.
Vishnu was instructed by leaders that he should not work in an association that has all students regardless of the organisation they are associated with. Unwilling to comply, Vishnu opted to depart from SFI and join AISF.
