Thrissur: Unmarried parents have confessed to killing and burying their newborn babies. They reached the Puthukkad police station in Thrissur with the children's bones at 2 am on Sunday. The youth told police that the child from the first birth was buried at the woman's house and the second child in Puthukkad.  

Bhavin (25), a native of Amballur, reached the Puthukkad police station at 2 am with the child's skeleton. The young man told the police that the mother of the children was a young woman named Anisha (22), a native of Vellikkulangara. The young man said that he buried the child as soon as she gave birth and kept the bones for ritual purposes. The police are questioning the woman and the man in the incident.

He stated that he met Anisha through Facebook. They fell in love and the woman gave birth in 2021. She gave birth in the bathroom of her house. The woman informed Bhavin that the baby boy she had given birth had died. He then buried the baby's body in a field near the woman's house. After the baby's death, the bones were taken for the rituals by Anisha. The bones were handed over to Bhavin.

The second birth took place in 2024. The man told the police that the birth took place inside a room in his wife's house. The woman informed him that the baby boy had died and the woman came to Bhavin's house with the body. Later, they buried the body.

It is not clear why the man has come forward to reveal the incident now. There are suspicions that witchcraft is behind the incident. 

Police have taken them into custody and are questioning them as part of the investigation.

"A man turned up at the station around 12.30 am saying the bag had the remains of two babies. He said one child died four years ago, the other two years ago. We are verifying his claims and treating the case as a possible homicide at this stage," said a senior police officer.

Police will visit the two burial sites mentioned by the man - one at a public cremation ground and another on private land. Forensic experts and medical teams will assist in the investigation, he said.

"We are looking into all angles. So far, we cannot confirm if this is a case of murder. The investigation is ongoing," the officer added.
