What was initially believed to be a fatal accident during a scenic outing has now taken an even darker turn.

As investigators unravel the events surrounding Pune businessman Ketan Agrawal's death, police say a troubled engagement and an unwilling bride-to-be may have been at the heart of an alleged murder conspiracy.

A fresh motive has emerged with investigators claiming that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was not ready for marriage and was under pressure from her family to go ahead with the wedding despite her objections.

"The accused was apparently not mentally prepared for marriage and was under pressure from her family to accept the proposal,” a senior police officer told ANI, as the investigation continues to uncover what police believe was a carefully planned crime.

The latest revelation comes days after Goyal and her alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, were arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill Agrawal at Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18.

Police allege the duo pushed the businessman into a nearly 400-foot gorge after luring him to the popular tourist spot. Investigators say the alleged plot had been in the making for days.

During questioning, Goyal reportedly told police that she had tried multiple times between June 4 and June 14 to persuade Agrawal to accompany her to the fort.

Those earlier attempts, however, did not culminate in the alleged plan. According to police, Goyal and Chaudhary later discussed why the initial attempts had failed.

Investigators allege that Chaudhary then instructed her to bring Agrawal back to Lohagad Fort on June 18. This time, police believe, the conspiracy was carried out.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Goyal allegedly informed police that Agrawal had accidentally slipped into the gorge while the couple was taking photographs amid strong winds.

Based on her statement, authorities initially treated the case as an accidental death.

However, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in her version of events. A deeper probe, backed by questioning and evidence collected during the investigation, led police to suspect that Ketan's death was the result of a premeditated conspiracy rather than an accident.

During sustained interrogation after her arrest, Goyal allegedly told investigators that she had informed her family she did not want to marry Ketan, but her concerns were ignored.

Police now believe that the pressure surrounding the marriage, coupled with her alleged relationship with Chaudhary, forms a crucial part of the motive behind the crime.

Both Goyal and Chaudhary remain in police custody as investigators continue gathering forensic, digital, and circumstantial evidence to strengthen the case.
