Thrissur, Kerala: A man was tied up and robbed of 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹50,000 in cash by a three-member gang at Mullakkara in Thrissur in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The victim, Somashekharan of Cheruvara House in Vettickal, was alone at home when the incident took place at around 2 am. The stolen jewellery and cash had been kept in a cupboard inside the house.

According to Somashekharan, three men entered the house, tied him up and carried out the robbery. He told police that the suspects spoke Hindi.

Victim raised alarm after escaping

Somashekharan said he was able to free himself shortly after the gang left the house.

He then ran to the roadside and alerted the police about the robbery.

A team from Mannuthy Police Station reached the house and began an investigation into the incident.

Forensic examination carried out

Police later conducted a detailed inspection of the property with the assistance of fingerprint experts and a dog squad.

Investigators collected evidence from the scene as part of the inquiry.

Further investigation is under way.
