Alappuzha, Kerala: A 67-year-old man was allegedly murdered in Karuvatta, Haripad, on the instructions of his 13-year-old relative, with three other minors allegedly carrying out the killing, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sivankutty. Police have arrested the 13-year-old girl and the three minors allegedly involved in the murder.

According to police, the accused showed the girl the murder over a video call while the crime was being committed. The three alleged assailants are from Kollam.

Police said the accused stole gold ornaments from the house after the murder. The alleged plan was to sell the jewellery and use the money to buy an iPhone for the girl and motorcycles for the other accused, police said.

The murder took place on Sunday night. Sivankutty lived at the house with his wife, daughter and granddaughter. His daughter, who was pregnant, had been admitted to Vandanam Medical College Hospital for delivery. His wife had gone with her to stay at the hospital, leaving Sivankutty and his granddaughter at home.

Police said the 13-year-old girl was not at the house when the murder took place.

The three accused allegedly reached the house at night and entered through the ventilation opening of the bathroom. Police said Sivankutty was tied by his hands and legs and subjected to a brutal attack.

After the murder, the accused allegedly scattered chilli powder throughout the house, apparently in an attempt to hinder the investigation.
