Kozhikode (Kerala): Two of the three female teachers arrested in the widely controversial Vadakara MDMA case are former office-bearers of a Left-leaning organisation. Kavya served as the Perambra unit convener of the Kerala Resource Teachers’ Association, while Neeshma held the post of joint convener. Both vacated their official posts last February.

Kavya, a native of Koorachundu, was arrested in connection with the case last Sunday. Neeshma, a native of Avala, was arrested on Tuesday. To date, three teachers from the Perambra Block Resource Centre (BRC) have been implicated in the case. Keerthana was the first to be arrested.

Police have received information indicating that all three female teachers, along with Jijil, a native of Iritty who was the latest to be arrested, transferred money to the bank account of a Wayanad native. Investigating officers are actively probing this lead. The police estimate that the Wayanad resident is the key operative and that locating him will reveal details about those behind the racket.

Following the arrest of his accomplices, information received by the police suggests that the Wayanad native has gone into hiding.
