Kerala police have arrested Benjamin, a 35-year-old lorry driver from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, for sexually assaulting an IT professional in her hostel room at Kazhakoottam

Thiruvananthapuram: Benjamin, a truck driver from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, was arrested by Kerala police for allegedly sexually assaulting an IT professional in her Kazhakoottam hostel around 2 AM on October 17. The hostel lacked CCTV, but investigators tracked the suspect using nearby camera footage and road monitoring.
Prior to the assault, Benjamin attempted theft in three nearby houses, using stolen items such as an umbrella, cap, and headphones to conceal his identity. After the crime, he fled toward Attingal and then to Madurai, but was apprehended after a dramatic police chase.

Police stated that Benjamin, 35, is a habitual offender with several cases of molestation against women in Tamil Nadu. He admitted he liked Kerala and had intended to visit again. Investigations continue to confirm his involvement in other cases. The accused will be presented before the Attingal court and remanded for further inquiry and evidence collection.
Kerala police formed a special team after the victim, an IT professional, lodged a complaint that an unidentified man sexually assaulted her while she slept. The attacker fled the scene upon resistance. Through CCTV and vehicle tracking, police identified Benjamin and confirmed his presence in the area.
Benjamin admitted the crime and revealed details of his prior offences in Tamil Nadu. Authorities noted that he frequently targeted women living on the streets and had multiple pending cases. Investigators are compiling details of his past crimes. An identification parade and scientific examinations are underway to substantiate the assault.
Kerala police have warned hostel authorities and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately, stressing that rapid action and community awareness are crucial in preventing such crimes.
