Bengaluru: A local court is set to hear the bail petition of Kannada superstar Darshan on Friday. Darshan has been in jail in connection with the alleged murder of a fan, Renukaswamy.
During the last hearing on September 30, the court had postponed the proceedings till October 4 after Darshan's lawyer requested more time to present their arguments. Senior lawyer Sunil met Darshan at Ballary prison to discuss details following the submission of the charge sheet against him.

The bail petition, filed after the charge sheet was submitted, claims that Darshan is innocent and has been "fixed" in the case. "Barring the major injury on the head, no major injuries were found on the body of Renukaswamy. There is no clarity on his exact time of death. There are contradictions between the statements before the court and the medical reports. There is no evidence to prove that Darshan has committed the crime of murder. The authorities have created evidence against Darshan in the case," the bail petition states.
Darshan reportedly admitted to assaulting Renukaswamy, who allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Darshan’s partner, Pavithra Gowda. However, he stated that he learned about Renukaswamy's death only later, according to a 20-page statement referenced in the police charge sheet. The charge sheet, which spans 3,991 pages, was submitted to the 24th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court on September 4.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that Darshan's wife, Vijayalaxmi, is making arrangements to transport him from Ballary to Bengaluru by helicopter if the court approves his bail.
On June 9, Renukaswamy was kidnapped from Chitradurga and taken to Bengaluru, where he was held in a shed at Pattanagere and severely beaten. He was murdered, and his body was later disposed of in a drain at Sumanahalli. In connection with this case, 17 individuals, including Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, were arrested on June 11. Out of the 17, the court has granted bail to three of the accused.
