Questions mount in Jamshedpur after Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh was allegedly dragged out of a police vehicle and fatally attacked, prompting suspensions and fresh scrutiny of the police response.

A fatal stabbing in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur has triggered public outrage and raised uncomfortable questions about the circumstances under which a Karni Sena leader was allegedly attacked after police had already intervened in a dispute and moved him into a patrol vehicle.
The victim, 28-year-old Himanshu Singh, succumbed to injuries following a violent altercation outside a bar in the city's Bistupur area. What has drawn particular scrutiny, however, are allegations that Singh and his friend were dragged out of a police vehicle by attackers and assaulted despite the presence of law enforcement personnel at the scene.
The incident traces back to Saturday night when Singh and his friend reportedly objected to eve-teasing at a bar. The confrontation escalated into a scuffle, prompting police intervention.
According to accounts that emerged after the incident, officers reached the spot and placed the two men in a patrol vehicle as tensions flared. But the situation allegedly spiralled further when a group of assailants pulled the duo out and attacked them with sharp weapons.
Singh suffered grievous injuries and later died during treatment. His friend, who was also stabbed, remains in critical condition.
The allegations surrounding the attack have become central to the growing anger on the streets of Jamshedpur, with many questioning how the assault could allegedly take place after police had already stepped in to control the situation.
The administration's response has reflected the seriousness of those concerns. Four police personnel have been suspended over alleged negligence in connection with the incident, while Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered the removal of East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey and Seraikela-Kharswan Superintendent of Police Nidhi Dwivedi.
Meanwhile, Singh's family has refused to conduct his last rites, demanding the immediate arrest of all accused and action against officials present during the attack.
As the deadline set by the family for arrests expired on Wednesday, authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita across several parts of Jamshedpur, including Sakchi, Bistupur, Sonari, Kadma, Mango and MGM police station areas.
In its notification, the district administration cited intelligence inputs indicating possible demonstrations and road blockades over the killing, warning that protests could affect public order.
The city had already witnessed large-scale unrest earlier this week. Protesters blocked roads in Bistupur for hours on Monday night, demanding justice for Singh and accountability in the case.
