Idukki: Body parts have been recovered from a residential compound at Nedumkandam in Kerala’s Idukki district, with police suspecting a possible killing and burial at the site.

The remains, found in an advanced state of decomposition, were recovered from the yard of Marykutty, a native of Pachady who lived there with her two sons. Marykutty and her elder son, Reji, have been missing for about a month.

Complaint triggers search at house

Local residents said the two had not been seen since April 2. When questioned about their whereabouts, the younger son reportedly gave contradictory accounts. Following this, Marykutty’s daughter lodged a complaint with police stating that her mother and brother were missing.

Acting on the complaint, police reached the house and conducted a search of the compound.

Body parts found; excavation under way

During the inspection, officers identified a patch where the soil appeared freshly disturbed. A search in the area led to the recovery of body parts buried near a dog shed, including part of a leg.

Police have temporarily halted excavation, assessing that more remains may be buried deeper. Procedures to recover the remaining parts are under way, and forensic experts are expected to reach the site shortly. Identification can only be confirmed after scientific examination.

Additional police teams from Nedumkandam and Peermade have been deployed. The younger son is not currently at the location, and a search has been launched to trace him.

Isolation in locality; earlier disappearance recalled

Residents said the family lived in relative isolation with limited interaction in the locality. Preliminary information indicates both sons are unmarried.

Locals also noted that the family’s father had gone missing under similar circumstances a few years ago, raising further suspicion.
