Kochi: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has joined the ongoing investigation led by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) into a darknet-based international drug network named Ketamelon. The case centres on ketamine smuggling operations tied to Kochi’s foreign post office.

NCB has begun questioning Edison, a Muvattupuzha native, his associate Arun Thomas, and Deol, who were allegedly involved in narcotics sales via the Ketamelon network. Authorities said the suspects had dealings with individuals in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, prompting IB’s involvement.

Seized devices examined for evidence

Computers and mobile phones recovered from the accused are being thoroughly examined. Investigators are also trying to determine the number of parcels shipped from abroad that are connected to the smuggling racket.

Probe extends to Deol and wife over earlier ketamine bust

Officials believe that a couple previously arrested for ketamine exports had not used the darknet. However, for further clarity, Deol — already arrested in the ketamine case — is now being questioned again.

The investigation began with a courier received at Kochi’s foreign post office and later led to Edison and his associate via the Ketamelon darknet chain. After four months of surveillance, the NCB traced the suspects. The inquiry into Deol and his wife also stems from a 2023 ketamine seizure at the same post office.
