Chalakudy: In a dramatic turn of events, four men reportedly jumped from a railway bridge into the Chalakudy river. The incident occurred when the 12697- Chennai Central - Trivandrum Superfast Express train was passing by around 1:30 am on Monday. According to the loco pilot, one of the men was struck by the train while the other three dived into the river to escape. Loco pilot informed the Chalakudy police about the incident.
Authorities believe the group is linked to a recent fraud case involving a Nadapuram native. The Chalakudy police had received a complaint that a group of migrant workers had swindled Rs. 4 lakh from a person from Nadapuram by promising him gold. Police suspect the men who jumped into the river are the same individuals involved in this scam.

Search operations were immediately launched but were hampered by the darkness and strong currents. The fire brigade and rescue teams resumed their efforts around 11:45 am on Monday. During the search, information emerged that the suspects had reached Perumbavoor.
It is suspected that one of the men, who jumped in the river got injured. He is under treatment in a hospital at Perumbavoor after undergoing an emergency surgery.
