Faridabad: A 17-year-old girl was shot outside a private library in Faridabad on Monday evening, November 3, in what police believe to be a case of stalking turned violent. The disturbing incident, which took place around 5 pm, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral online.

According to police reports, the accused had been following and harassing the girl for several days. Both the victim and the suspect were regular visitors to the same library for study sessions. In the CCTV footage, the man can be seen waiting on his motorcycle near the library entrance. When the girl approached with a friend, he pulled out a firearm and opened fire at her before fleeing the scene.

The girl was seen moving away from the spot immediately after being shot. Locals rushed to her aid, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Police recovered the weapon, which had been left behind by the accused, from the crime scene.

Authorities confirmed that the girl identified the man and revealed he had previously harassed her. “Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused,” said a senior police officer.

The incident has triggered widespread concern over women’s safety in the region, reigniting debate about harassment and violence against young women in public spaces.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused had been stalking the teenager for some time, despite her repeated attempts to avoid contact. The confrontation on Monday turned violent when he allegedly confronted her as she exited the library.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as shots rang out in the usually quiet neighbourhood. “People started running in fear; it was very sudden,” said a shopkeeper in the area.

Police officials from Faridabad stated that the weapon used in the attack — a country-made pistol — was seized for forensic examination. “We have strong leads and expect to arrest the suspect soon,” one officer added.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
