Madhya Pradesh: In a disturbing case from Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, a man posing as a cardiologist has been accused of performing unauthorised heart surgeries that resulted in the deaths of seven patients.

The surgeries were carried out at a missionary-run hospital in January and February 2025, and the case has now been escalated to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), according to India Today.

The suspect, identified as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, allegedly assumed the identity of Dr N John Kem, a reputed cardiologist from St George’s University, London. Local resident Deepak Tiwari filed a formal complaint alleging that Yadav operated on at least 15 patients under the false identity, leading to seven confirmed deaths.

Further investigation revealed that Yadav had forged medical qualifications and used the real Dr Kem’s name to build credibility. Dr Kem later confirmed via email that his identity had been misused. Tiwari’s complaint also alleged gross negligence by the hospital, stating that the administration neither reported the deaths to local authorities nor conducted mandatory post-mortems. Families were reportedly charged high medical fees and were handed over bodies without proper explanation.

The complainant has demanded criminal charges including murder against Yadav and the hospital management, as well as the revocation of the hospital’s licence. District Collector Sudhir Kochar confirmed that a formal inquiry has been initiated following the complaint.
