Nearly three months after the shocking rape, murder and robbery of a young UPSC aspirant in Delhi's Amar Colony, investigators have laid out what they describe as an evidence-heavy case against the accused, filing a 973-page chargesheet before a Delhi court.

The victim, daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was found dead inside her residence in Kailash Hills, East of Kailash, on April 22. Police allege she was sexually assaulted, murdered, and robbed inside the house.

According to investigators, the case was pieced together using an extensive forensic and digital trail.

More than 100 CCTV cameras were examined to map the accused's movements before and after the crime, while teams from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) carried out a detailed examination of the crime scene.

The accused, 23-year-old Rahul Kumar Meena, was identified through CCTV footage and arrested on the day of the incident following a multi-team search operation.

Police said the stolen valuables were recovered based on information provided by him.

To strengthen the prosecution's case, investigators recreated the crime scene after the arrest, documenting the accused's alleged movements inside the house through photographs and videography.

Experts also conducted gait pattern analysis using the reconstruction footage and CCTV recordings.

Forensic findings form a key part of the chargesheet. Police said fingerprints and palm impressions recovered from the scene matched the accused, while DNA profiling linked biological evidence collected during the investigation to him.

Investigators also carried out Behavioural Analysis Interview and Layered Voice Analysis tests through CFSL experts.

During the probe, police questioned neighbours, security guards, domestic workers, drivers, labourers, sweepers and auto-rickshaw drivers, while separate teams travelled to Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and multiple locations across Delhi to verify leads.

Delhi Police said statements were recorded under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the prosecution has listed 82 witnesses in support of its case.

The chargesheet was filed before the competent court on July 16. The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing on July 18.
