New Delhi: A suspected kidnapping case involving a 10-month-old girl in northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur took a shocking turn after police uncovered evidence suggesting that the infant was allegedly murdered by her own father.

According to police sources, the accused allegedly drugged his wife and elder daughter by mixing an intoxicating substance in food or drink before killing the baby during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The case initially surfaced after the family claimed the child had gone missing early Sunday morning when the father had stepped out to buy milk.

However, during questioning, police reportedly grew suspicious of inconsistencies in the father’s statements. Further interrogation allegedly revealed his involvement in the crime.

Police sources said the accused later confessed to killing the infant and dumping her body inside a septic tank. A search operation is currently underway to recover the body.

The father has been detained and is being interrogated. Investigators also suspect the possible involvement of other family members in the case, sources added.

Earlier in the day, the child’s grandfather had told reporters that the infant went missing after his son returned home from buying milk and could not find her.

The child’s mother, Surya, had also claimed that when her husband returned, he found both her and their elder daughter in an unconscious state.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
