Palakkad: Chenthamara, the accused in the Nenmara double murder case, was remanded till February 12 after appearing before the Alathur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. During the proceedings, Chenthamara confessed to committing the crime alone, stating that he was willing to accept a 100-year prison sentence immediately. He further explained that he killed Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi, because they had destroyed his reason to live.

Chenthamara claimed that his daughter is an engineer and his son-in-law is a member of the Special Branch and said that he was no longer able to hold his head high in front of them. He requested the court to sentence him as soon as possible, stressing that he could not face his family after the crime.

When initially questioned by the court about any injuries, Chenthamara revealed that he had some things to disclose. He stated that he had no complaints and had done what he wanted to do.

After a detailed interrogation, Chenthamara was brought to the court under heavy police security. A large crowd had gathered at the court during the proceedings. Following his remand, he was shifted to Alathur sub-jail after undergoing a medical examination.

According to the remand report, Chenthamara is described as a remorseless criminal who expressed satisfaction with carrying out the premeditated murders. The report further reveals that he had bought a machete days before the murders and had planned the killings in advance. Chenthamara also attempted to mislead the police during the investigation.

Chenthamara went into hiding after hacking Sudhakaran, a native of Pothundi, and his mother to death. After a 36-hour search, he was nabbed by the police in the Pothundi area. The authorities had traced the SIM card in his mobile phone, which led them to his hiding place. Rumours had suggested that he had fled to Bengaluru, but he was eventually arrested around 10 pm on Tuesday.
